The Kitchen (You Will Be Jealous)

I've hesitated to show the kitchen because it's not finished.  Because we have little kids and I'm a realist, it may be a few years before it is finished.  So, I'm showing you what we've done so far.

This is what the kitchen looked like the first time I ever laid eyes on it. It was love at first sight.
Look at all those cabinets!  It's hard to tell from the pictures, but the kitchen is in a "U" shape, with about 30 linear feet of countertops.  Forty doors and twenty drawers.  Yes, be jealous.

We decided to move the oven and knock down the wall.   The red hood blob below is Mr. Intensity and is standing on carpet.  Hubby laid 18 inch tile in that room, the kitchen, and laundry room - about 450 square feet!  He says he will never lay tile again.  The man is getting old.
Our contractor built (some of) the cabinets back.
The two following pictures are what you see when you walk in from the garage.
See the wires hanging from the ceiling?  This is what Hubby patched on Saturday.

The contractor painted the cabinets and replaced the countertops with new laminate.  We were able to reuse the hardware, they're beautiful copper.  The sliver of light to the right of the refrigerator is a window in our dining room.  A swinging door separates the kitchen from the dining room.
This is my glorious bar.  In the corner of the adjoining room you'll see our homeschool stuff.  For now the placement works.

At first we thought we'd put our kitchen table beyond the bar.  But we also have a formal dining room (that has carpet, boo.)  We like eating in the dining room because we can see the street while we eat.  As a family of extroverts, we like knowing who's out and about. :)

What's left to do:
-paint the soffits above the cabinets
-tile the backsplash (Hubby wants to be creative here)
-install pendant lights above the bar

I'm very satisfied with the progress.

It's lovely. And now I do see the glorious bar. :) Although I will say that the advantage of having a small kitchen is that you can't let the dishes pile up!

It is looking great! I'm torn between coming to paint those soffits or waiting until it is all finished! Can't wait to see it all.
