Homemade Playdough

One of my neighbors moved last weekend (my favorite neighbor, Gina & family). In the process of sorting and packing, she discovered 5 containers of salt. Guess who's the proud new recipient of said salt? Moi.

What to do with so much salt? Make Playdough.

Below is a fab recipe that we made today. Sorry, no pictures, since I made this & banana bread BEFORE going to the zoo - I'm a crazy woman. The zoo was absolutely packed. I felt even crazier by the time we got home.

Playdough

2 c flour
1 c salt
1 tsp cream of tartar
2 TBSP oil
2 c water
Food coloring

Mix ingredients in saucepan. Don't freak out if it looks too liquid-y...it will thicken. Stir constantly, cook over medium heat until dough leaves sides of pan. Remove from pan and knead food coloring into it for a few minutes.

Store in a tightly closed plastic container or zip lock bag. If you want to prolong longevity, you can store in the refrigerator. I just figure Destructo will either get it all on the floor or leave it out in the open to dry before it goes bad.

If you'd like for it to smell good, add a few drops of scented oil or flavoring; the kiddos will love it even more.
