Happy Birthday Hubby

It was a celebration kind of weekend. The festivities commenced Thursday afternoon when Mr. Intensity and I made this key lime cheesecake.  [Oh my.  So good.  My mouth is watering just thinking about it.]  Saturday morning Hubby unwrapped a special drawing/creative piece from Mr. Intensity and two fun ties from me.  OK, so maybe the ties weren't all that fun.

Seven years ago on Hubby's b-day I gave him a peculiar gift: What to Expect When You're Expecting.  After opening it he looked at me as if to say, "Why did you buy this book?  It's for a woman."

We had only been married 2 years and I thought hints worked with him.  I was trying to hint that I was pregnant!  He was more excited about the gift when he finally figured out he was expecting to be a dad!  [Since I've learned that hints don't work.]

Unfortunately, that pregnancy ended with a miscarriage.  And began our journey into infertility.

On his birthday in 2003, two years after the above story, my parents gave him a bit of cold hard cash for his gift.  Do you know what my hubby bought with it?  Our initial adoption fees with Child of the Heart so that we could bring home a Russian infant.

A few months later I laughed when I took a pregnancy test.  Mr. Intensity was born in Sept., 2004.  His name, JohnIsaac, in part is a memorial to Sarah & Abraham's infertility.  They named their first son, Isaac, because they laughed when they became parents in their old age.  My paternal grandmother's maiden name is also Isaac.

[side note: at my yearly OB/GYN exam last week, I discussed my temperature charts with my doctor.  He said, "I wouldn't give up hope. There's still hope that you could have a baby. You've had 3 pregnancies (2 miscarriages) so that tells us that you can get pregnant; you've carried a baby to full term so you can carry a baby.  Don't give up." Yay!]

Today is hubby's birthday.  Know what he's doing?  Flying to Little Rock to work.  Boo.

But!  On Wednesday, I will join him there and together we'll meet the birth mother

Last week, it dawned on me that 3 of my husband's birthdays have been significant in our journey as a family.  He is an incredible dad.  He is a wonderful husband.  I am a rich woman - blessed to be his bride.

Hi Julie! Greetings from Grace in the Home. Thanks for visiting and commenting on my blog. It seems we share a lot in common. We, too, have been challenged with infertility and also surprisingly blessed with a little girl in 2004. I pray that God continues to bless your family.

Was a memorable couple of years and it's neat to see how you see how God is leading your family. It's really sweet that John used his bday money for Roman! I am praying that you have many more birthdays to celebrate soon ;) Remember JI's bday hymn...

Oh, I just saw a "Naturally Knocked Up" blog from Joanna's blog--looks just like what you'd be reading... I'll be reading that for some great tips too.

I am definitely making note of that recipe. I'm not really supposed to eat cheesecake, but key lime cheesecake is my absolute favorite.

And I have noticed that no, guys don't get hints. At least none of the guys I know. I've pretty much given up on the guessing games and tell my husband and dad straight out when there is important news.
