Great Grandpa

Great Grandpa Majors stopped by for a visit today.  He lives in Texas and was traveling home from visiting other family in Indiana.  His first name is John, as is his son, grandson and great grandson (Mr. Intensity).  My dad's name is also John!

This man is a real man's man: WWII veteran and loves to talk about firearms.  He's an ardent supporter of the NRA...and even bought his wife a .40 caliber handgun - what a man!  In his wallet today, he whipped out a list of states that recognize his Texas concealed carry license.  All the while he was sword fighting with his great-grandson.  Kindred spirits, I tell you.

On more than one occasion, this fella made me laugh out loud.  He's not a particularly funny man, as much as he is ...um... particular.

As he took a walk down memory lane and told us some stories of his childhood, I couldn't help but think he was a bit like Mr. Intensity as a kid. A hard charger.  He has a pair of boots made from a rattlesnake's skin, the snake's life was snuffed out by Great Grandpa stomping on it.  The man celebrated his 85th birthday in September and gets around like a spring chick rooster!

He met Shirley, his second wife, at a square dancing function in their town.  Before marrying each other, both of their first marriages lasted 50+ years (their spouses passed on).  When leaving today he said, "We have 50 more to go in this marriage!"
