How to Cut a Watermelon

My new friend, Teressa, has been teaching all the moms here the "proper way to cut a watermelon." With over 40 kids combined, we've eaten our fair share of the sugary summer fruit.

As she dissected about the 10th watermelon today, I decided to take pictures. I will never cut a watermelon the same after watching her.

First she slices off about 2 inches of each end. Then she cuts it in half. Turning one half so that the bigger side is down, start cutting slices or wedges (like a pie). If you have a relatively sharp knife, this is simple.
If you cut the slices so that they are slender, it makes it easy enough for the littlest of hands to savor.
After it's been sliced, if you want to get extra fancy, you can put a big bowl on top of the watermelon, then flip it over. Voila! It's perfect for serving in the bowl. However, hungry kids at the pool don't care what it looks like - or the container that holds it.

So glad you had fun in the water. Eli has gone as a 2 year old, and was a bit afraid... I bet he would love it now. Sounds like you had fun at the scavenger hunt... wish I could have been there!
