I want advice

I'm going crazy. I need help - and I'm serious about soliciting advice.

Mr. Intensity is in a "phase" (I hope it's a phase!). For a while he's been rhyming nonsensical words. Scooby-dooby-newbie. Schniggle-diggle-piggle.

At first it was cute. Then it was annoying. Now it is driving me insane.

A friend was here today for a few hours and she said, "I've never heard a child go on and on like that."

I looked at her and said, "It's annoying, isn't it?!"

She didn't say no. She said, "Well, he will be an early reader with good verbal skills."

He is really smart and I don't want to squelch his creativity. However, I do want to stop the insanity!!!

What ideas do you have to help me?

I do not really have any good advise! But I can TOTALLY relate! Josh is doing the same thing right now and it is real annoying. Especially when the words get a little risque in public, ya know?! What we do, that sometimes helps, is change the subject or try to get him to try a different type of word game. For example, what starts with..., or maybe think of an animal for every letter of the alphabet. Josh is an early reader, just turned 4 today, so I guess we can be happy that at least it is an annoyance that is leading to a great outcome?????

Tatum does that too. Let me know if you figure it out...

I am sorry I don't have any. Eli just sings with words that aren't real all the time to songs he could say the words properly.... that drives me nuts. I am not at this stage yet, but look forward to hearing what you find out!

I'm encouraged that I'm not alone in this battle! :)

My SIL emailed (b.c she couldn't see the blog letters to verify her post):
Teach him to sing songs instead? Michael said if he likes rhyming words then have him pick out the words that rhyme in the song. Or to pick out real things in the house that rhyme (chair and bear) together. Or, if you want a laugh, try to get him to find something that rhyme's with orange (j/k). That's all I've got. Basically... I dunno! It's funny, though, that your not the only one as evidenced from the other mom's comments.
