True Woman

This sweet pumpkin was on my porch when I came home late last night.  I'd just spent 3 refreshing days in Chicago with 6,300 women at the True Woman '08 conference.  Three of those women were good friends from Phoenix. There were women from 8 countries and 48 states.  We heard incredible speakers and were challenged to think bigger thoughts of God. It wasn't a "fluffy" or "light" conference.

The focus of the conference was to help women:
  • Discover and embrace God's created design and mission for their lives
  • Reflect the beauty and heart of Christ to their world
  • Intentionally pass on the baton of Truth to the next generation
  • Pray earnestly for an outpouring of God's Spirit in their families, churches, nation, and world
I was affirmed in my femininity and encouraged as a wife, mother and friend. It was my great privilege to sign the True Woman Manifesto.  Read it and consider signing it, too.

I wanted to write more about the conference and feminism but I think I shall retire to my bed.

It is interesting to note that 40 years ago, also in Chicago, the first national Women's Liberation conference was held.  Only 200 women attended that conference and think of the (negative) effects feminism has made on the world since.  [Not all feminism is bad.  I am thankful for my right to vote and own property.  I will exercise my right to vote PRO-LIFE in November.]

If you're interested in learning more , The Feminism Mistake: The Radical Impact of Feminism on Church and Culture is a worthwhile read.  It leans to the "academic" side of reading.  Two years ago I read this book in a book club; the author was one of the speakers this weekend and I enjoyed her talk greatly.

May the Lord greatly bless the prayers of 6,300+ this weekend.

I live about an hour away from where the conference was held but because I'm a single mom with a limited income I was unable to attend. It was a great and wonderful surprise to find the live video feed halfway through Thursday's sessions! I was blessed quite a bit by this conference AND I didn't have to spend any money on gas. ;)

Some ladies from my church went to that, and are also raving about it!

That pumpkin is too sweet.

Julie- I'm so sorry we didn't cross paths at TW'08. I was there too...what a blessing! It ended on a high note when I discovered that the stretch limo outside the hotel was my shuttle ride back to O'Hare (discount arranged via TW)! Great deal for $22!! :o) Looking forward to having you in LR and praying for all the details, timing, adoption.
