Two hours were allocated for the Eisenhower Presidential Library, if we were to make it to the Flying W Ranch for dinner in Colorado Springs.That's not enough for a history buff but plenty of time for Mr. Intensity.
There were lots of things I learned from the Abilene, Kansas stop. A few of the most noteworthy are:
- Eisenhower's boyhood home is still there on the grounds. In fact, it was memorialized in 1945, when his mother died. Eight years before he became president, the Eisenhower Foundation was established.
- Wedding cake can survive for years, at least 80. See evidence below.
There's a piece of the Eisenhowers' cake in the bottom right of the picture, above. Also pictured is Mamie's wedding dress.- Last, but not least, I learned that little boys much prefer climbing trees than visiting museums.

I'm glad you got to go. Someday you can retell JI all the things he saw while he was waiting to go climb a tree!
I have some (non-digital) pictures of Super Grover enjoying the Eisenhower site on our cross-country trek in 1999. I may have to compile all of the pictures we have taken of that stuffed creature in various places.
