My husband has been facilitating a Sunday School class for parents of young children. The first class we discussed Shepherding a Child's Heart; I also recommend the handbook. Then we talked through Teach Them Diligently. Currently, we are gaining insight from The Family Worship Book.
Since Mr. Intensity is 3.5 and full of energy, family worship at our house is short and sweet. Basically we pray, then John tells a story (sometimes it's from the Bible, sometimes it's from his childhood) and finally we sing a song.
Last night we opted to change things up a bit.
Usually Mr. Intensity and I do all kinds of fun things during the day. Yesterday we didn't get around to all that was planned. Hubby is taking a business trip at the end of the week, so it worked best to incorporate a few things in one.
Like - watercolors, letter of the week, story telling and singing.
Edith Schaeffer, in her book, The Hidden Art of Homemaking, talks about the importance of family time. And, when possible, include art. Their family would take sketch pads into the Alps and observe God's beautiful creation.
It was a blast at the table last night; all going at our own pace. We talked about the importance of the rainbow, God's promises, righteousness, and why we need Jesus.
We'll be doing family worship like this again.
Double blessing - this morning I read where John's brother's family did something similar last night, too. :)
so - what does your family do to worship together?
