BBQ yum

In the past 3.5 weeks, I've eaten more BBQ than I have in the last 3.5 years. Granted, I have made BBQ in my crockpot but it just isn't the same as going to a restaurant and smelling it on my clothes all night and the next day.

My favorite was a place in Georgia: Jim & Nicks. Next in line is Corky's in Little Rock (I also ate it as my first post-delivery meal). Last, but not least is Mark's Feed Store in Louisville.

Silly Story About Cultural Differences
When helping to brainstorm about catering for my first Phoenix Seminary picnic, I piped up and said, "What about ordering a bunch of BBQ with all the fixin's?"

Blank stares. All the southwestern women looked at me as if to say, "What the heck is BBQ?"

The first woman politely said, "Well, that's a good idea but where would we get the BBQ?"

At a BBQ restaurant, of course.

Another kindly said, "Have you seen one of those restaurants around here?"

Hmmm...come to think of it, I haven't. Plenty of Mexican food, not so much of the Southern style.

We decided the men would grill hamburgers.

It was the beginning of realizing I wasn't in the South anymore.
